MPhil in Politics (Comparative Government), Oxon

About

I’m an MPhil student in Politics (Comparative Government) at the University of Oxford and a visiting research assistant at 'Lokniti', or the programme for comparative democracy at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies.Currently, my research foci centers around the verticals of (1) comparative democratisation and (2) political elites and leadership. On the subject of comparative democratisation, I'm invested in analysing the gradual erosion of democratic institutions and norms at the hands of duly elected governments and, in particular, selecting and testing the variables that determine the trajectory and outcomes of a democracy's decline. On the subject of political elites, I'm interested in discerning the effect of political candidates' formal educational background on voters' perceptions of and support for candidates across different democratic regimes and setups.Prior to graduate school, I received my BA summa cum laude in Political Science from Ashoka University. I have also worked as a research assistant and/or intern for several organizations and think tanks, including the Centre de Sciences Humaines (CSH), Centre for New Economic Studies (CNES), and KPMG Global Services (KGS). Outside of academia, you can find me praising the second coming of post-punk music or lamenting the decline of artistic expression in contemporary cinema. You can contact me at madhav [dot] singh [at] politics [dot] ox [dot] ac [dot] uk.
